The number of classes has increased over the years. These are run by volunteer class leaders and helpers who have been trained in the methods and techniques devised by the Founder.
Over the years Conquest Art has always prided itself to keep up to date with new ideas, materials, methods and now Computer Art. There is a dedicated system set up for members with specialist adaptations enabling Computer art to be produced.
Members are encouraged to create artwork from their imagination, to develop their own style, and to work at their own pace. This is important, as a person’s disability can sometimes affect their level of creativity. Many who doubt their ability to draw or paint are always surprised at the results of their efforts.
Ursula Hulme MBE, a trained artist, realised many years ago the value of creative art to physically disabled people. Initially she taught only a small number of individuals, but the demand gradually grew and classes started to form. This led, in 1978, to the founding of the charity Conquest Art.
