Richard was first introduced to Conquest Art by the information service at Epsom Hospital, DICE. He had been a member of a number of organisations, and, with the help of his brother and friends, had participated in various active hobbies. However, following his spinal rod operation at the age of 15 he needed to explore other types of activities which were not so physically demanding.
Conquest Art became very important to Richard as his disability progressed. Initially he attended the Cox Lane Centre, but then his classes at a local college had to take precedence. (He obtained a degree in business Information Technology). To enable him to continue with his art the tutor at Cox Lane kindly offered a weekly home visit.
Richard uses brush pens which enable the paint to flow with minimum pressure required. The colours are vibrant and you will see from the display here that he is able to create wonderful artwork. The development of his natural talent has increased his confidence, and being able to sell his artwork and notelets for research has given him a great feeling of self-worth. |
